Design & Construction Standards

Tualatin Valley Water District's (TVWD) Water System Design & Construction Standards (D&CS) describe the requirements for design and construction of water facilities within District service boundaries.

The D&CS provide:

• Guidelines for engineers and project managers in consulting firms for the production of engineering plans.
• Material and workmanship standards for contractors who will construct the public water facilities in the field.
• A set of Detail Drawings.

July 2024 Updates

In July 2024, updates will go into effect to TVWD's D&CS, along with Standard Details.

Updates include, but are not limited to, the following areas: 

• Service Installations: For two inch or smaller meters, developers will be required to install service lines. This will allow for service lines to be pressure and bacteriological tested along with the newly installed mains. TVWD crews will continue to install services on the live water system.  
• Material Specifications: Updated approved materials to allow for greater flexibility during supply chain issues.   
• Construction Practices: New guidelines aimed at improving construction quality and clarifying construction procedures.  

Implementation 

• Current Plan Approval: Projects with a current plan approval (valid for six months after approval date) or under active construction are not subject to the updated standards. 
• Expired Approval or Submitted after July 1, 2024: All projects with an expired approval, or projects submitted for review after the July 1, 2024, effective date must adhere to the updated standards. 
• Ongoing: For ongoing TVWD projects, please consult with Development Services to determine how these changes may impact your current work.
