Florence Lane Reservoirs Roof Coating

Project Details

UPDATE: The southern reservoir (located closest to the site entrance at 6675 SW Florence Lane) is about a quarter sand blasted and prime coated. Painting will begin soon. Next, the process will be repeated for the northern reservoir. Learn more.

Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) will be restoring and repainting the roofs of the 1.9-million-gallon and 2.1-million-gallon Florence Lane Reservoirs at 6675 SW Florence Lane.

This maintenance project will:  

• Protect the reservoirs against environmental factors. 
• Prevent leaks. 
• Extend the reservoirs’ lifespan.  

This project is a $600,000 investment in TVWD's water system and paid for by revenue from water rates.

Timeline

• Construction begins: Week of July 15, 2024
• Construction complete: October 2024 

The project timeline is subject to change. 

Process

• Draining the reservoirs to a safe level.  
• Power washing inside and out, requiring a generator. 
• Roof inspection and repairs.  
• Applying primer for better coating adhesion.  
• Applying new roof paint.  
• Curing and inspection. 
• Touch ups and cleaning.   
• Cleaning, refilling, and water quality sampling of reservoirs prior to returning to service. 

Quieter techniques will be used for roof preparation compared to prior methods. 

Impacts

TVWD understands that there are neighborhood concerns regarding the noise generated during prior maintenance projects at the site, and we want to address these transparently. 

While quieter techniques will be used for roof preparation compared to previous methods, TVWD recognizes that the project will still create noise, especially for residents near the site.  

• Monitoring Noise Levels: We will be closely monitoring noise levels to ensure they remain within safe limits and remain responsive to any feedback or concerns raised by residents.     
• Noise Reduction Measures: TVWD will implement noise reduction measures where feasible. This may include using quieter equipment, erecting sound barriers or shields around the work area, and strategically planning the painting process to minimize noise impact. 
• Daytime Schedule: We have scheduled the surface preparation and painting activities during daytime hours, from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to minimize disruption during early morning or late evening hours.
