What is TVWD doing?

TVWD will replace up to 4,900 feet of water main serving customers on SW Stoddard Drive from 209th Avenue to Kinnaman Road. This project is a $1.5 million investment in the water system serving this area, paid using funds from regular water bills. This project will replace the aging 8-inch cast iron water mains with a new, 8-inch zinc-coated ductile iron water mains to improve water service reliability. A map of the project area is below.

We appreciate your patience as we complete this water system improvement. This project will improve the water system in this area, including increasing reliability and resiliency of the overall water system. This project will also reduce the need for future maintenance projects and emergency repairs this area.

Construction Information

Construction of the new water main is anticipated to start in April 2024 and last approximately six months. The project will be constructed by a licensed contractor under supervision of TVWD's inspection team. We appreciate everyone's patience during this project and welcome feedback on our efforts. Equipment and material staging will begin prior to construction.

TVWD will make efforts to limit noise, dust, and other construction experiences for neighboring customers, though noise, dust, and other disruptions should still be expected throughout. Please send any construction feedback to Outreach@TVWD.org so we can improve our operations.

How can I stay informed?

What Is the Timeline?
  1. Project area surveying: April 2023
  2. Design and engineering: May - September 2023
  3. Bidding/hiring contractor: October 2023
  4. Construction: June - September 2024

Please note that timelines will be subject to change due to a variety of factors.

Why now?

The existing water main is deteriorating and is a priority replacement project. This section of water main experienced two corrosion-related failures in recent years.

Upgrading this water main helps provide reliable water service into the future, reduces the chance of leaking and broken water mains, and provides greater fire protection coverage.

How does this affect me?

Water Service Disruptions

Once the new water main is installed, individual water services will be connected to the new line. Your water will be temporarily turned off for 60 minutes to connect your home to the new main. When the entire project is complete, TVWD will disconnect the original water main from the system. That process requires a service disruption of four to six hours.

Water service disruptions are scheduled in the middle of the day when most residents are away from home. It is TVWD's goal to minimize the water service disruption time for all customers. You will be notified at least 48 hours in advance when service disruptions are planned.

Due to the size of this project, certain customers may experience multiple service disruptions.

Working Times

Work will occur Monday through Friday, with working hours set by the project's Washington County permits and announced once they are set. Work may periodically occur outside of the approved if approved by Washington County.

Traffic Disruptions

Vehicular and pedestrian access within the project area will be limited during construction.

General Construction Disruptions

During construction, heavy equipment and materials will be located in the work area. These areas will be clearly marked with cones and/or caution tape. When construction is occurring, noise and dust may be present.
